“Forbidden Feast” is a painting that captures plastic pollution as a direct impact on our health and nutrition. I portrayed a traditional Korean meal centered on mackerel, a fish sometimes called the “barley of the sea.” We struggle through the obstacles that we created ourselves to nourish ourselves. This piece symbolizes the “healthy” meal we consume, which is unknowingly contaminated as a result of plastic pollution.
Through this work, I hope to expose the unsettling reality of plastic not just as an environmental crisis but as a direct threat to human health. The meal covered in plastic reflects the “healthy” food we eat every day, yet contaminated.
